Trying something different

In an effort to win some free stuff, I made my medium format 120 holga camera into a 35mm sprocket camera, which pretty much means the image bleeds onto the sprocket holes giving the photograph a nifty effect. I have not totally gotten the hang of it but I can see that it can brings something more to the image. Will try another role.

Snow, it's here!

Snow and I had a falling out last year before Christmas. I think I am ready to move on and forgive.

What is with the headphones?

Sandwiched between a week of rain and an expected week of rain, this past Saturday Improv Everywhere held their first NYC MP3 Experiment. At 6 PM hundreds of New Yorkers pushed play on their ipods, listening to a downloaded mp3 file of instructions. Sadly, I was on the subway when 6:00 rolled around, but was told then final meet up location would be Bryant Park. With activities ranging from drawing a strangers portrait, drawing the Continents, exchanging gifts, and wrapping each other up as toilet papers mummies, it was a really fun thing to watch. What was almost equally fun as the people participating were the people who had no idea what was happening.

And then it was over.

No home run record, but plenty of rain

Went to my first Yankees game this season on Friday. They played the Kansas City Royals so we were not expecting much as far as a game. Thursday night A-Rod hit his 599 career home run so there was much anticipation of number 600. The game was rolling along, Yankees ahead and looking good till the bottom of the 5th when the heavens opened up and started to rain. You have to hand it to the ground crew that rolled out the big white tarp over infield and still were perky for the 7th inning YMCA. What started out as rain turned into a full blown thunderstorm with thunder and lightning right above our heads. At one point you could not see the other side of the stadium and the rain was coming sideways from the front and back. Game ended 7-1 with no home run record but wow was that lightning cool!

It's the Magical Mystery Kind

Thursday night I had tickets to see the ensemble band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, fronted by the messiah-esque Alex Ebert. A mix of hippie and hipster, they put on a great show with the crowd really feeding into the band's energy. During what I consider their most well known song, some guy jumped on stage which basically was an open invitation for all to do the same. I am not bold enough to jump on a stage for many reasons, but since Alex came down to the floor for a sit in style song after, I feel good with my timidity. I also shot some film of this night so hopefully that will turn out and you can see more of the show in black and white!
